Sustainable Business

Looking at our core business, we have committed to achieve net zero GHG emissions in everything we finance globally by 2050 and have set specific interim 2030 targets in a growing number of industry sectors with the aim of supporting our clients’ efforts to transition to a decarbonized economy.

In 2024, MUFG raised its global sustainable finance target to ¥100 trillion by 2030. We have been a consistent worldwide leader in project finance for renewable energy, often besting our industry’s annual rankings and taking the cumulative number one spot over the past 10 years in volume of lending for clean energy technologies like solar, wind, battery storage, geothermal, hydrogen, and biomass.

Through its Environmental and Social Policy Framework, participation in voluntary initiatives that promote best practices in sustainable business, and public reporting of progress, MUFG addresses issues of climate change, biodiversity, and human rights. Community Outreach

MUFG aims to improve the social welfare of our communities through philanthropic investments, volunteering, and charitable donations. We encourage the community outreach eﬀorts of our colleagues by providing paid time off to volunteer, supporting and sponsoring volunteer opportunities, and by matching donations to eligible organizations to support the causes that they care about.

God’s Love We Deliver (GLWD)

MUFG’s Pride Alliance Employee Resource Network partnered with the Americas Legal Department DCP Council and colleagues helped prepare and pack healthy, delicious, and nutritious meals at GLWD with the guidance of their expert on-staff chefs. Since 1985, GLWD has prepared and delivered food to people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves.

Melrose New Generation’s Art in the Garden

Colleagues in New York rolled up their sleeves and helped revitalize a local garden in the Bronx. To prepare local youth on how to plant, harvest fresh produce, and compost, the team helped by mulching, removing weeds, watering the plants, building flower beds, and tilling the soil. Melrose New Generation is a non-profit that aims to affirm the cultural backgrounds of the youth they serve.
